Issues Facing the Healthcare System

There are a number of issues facing the overall healthcare delivery, which deserves a critical  attention for medical assistance.

Limited Access
The population growth rate of a typical South Sahara country, currently estimated at 3%, has outstripped growth in the provision of social infrastructure including health facilities.

Lack of Adequate Facilities
South Sahara lacks adequate healthcare facilities to meet the needs of the growing poverty and its population. For example:  Reported statistics indicate the population hospital ratio in Ghana is 94,497:1 and the population health institution ratio is 10,229:1.

Lack of Specialists & Sub-Specialists
One of the biggest challenges facing healthcare delivery in the South Sahara is the lack of specialists and sub-specialists. Statistics from the Ministry of Health Human Resources.

Poor Service Standards
It is generally perceived that the quality of healthcare in the South Sahara is sub-optimal. Lack of equipment, general absence of efficient ambulance services, inadequate emergency and trauma facilities and the lack of effective institutional quality assurance are but a few of the problems hindering efficient medical care delivery in South Sahara community.

It is clear that there is a severe shortage of health facilities in the South Saharan countries. Since the governments alone are not able to meet the fast expanding health needs of it's country.  Charitable organizations such as Project REACH are able to present unique opportunities to service healthcare in the region.
